Dortmund Review:
The
term "Wimbledon tactics" immediately came to mind
when playing with Dortmund. For those of you out there that
don’t know what that is, it was a tactic played in the early
90s by an ex premiership team Wimbledon, in which the defender
would attempt to launch the ball forward at any given moment
and the tall lads up front would attempt to play off of it.
The tall lad in question here is Jan Koller, and at 202 cm you
wont find any bigger. Unfortunately for Koller such a big gift
is wasted and his ability to mess up simple headers will have
you wanting to tear your hair out. You see, Koller is very
inconsistent and this term seems to sum up well the whole of
the Dortmund team. Dortmund still obviously sore from their
loss of Lehman use unknown keeper Weidenfeller who is full of
athleticism but tends to punch or parry too much for my
liking. The defence is severely under strengthen and very slow
and I was appalled by the lack of anything shown by the
captain Madouni. Dede however provides the team with pace
commitment and is very uplifting for those midfielders he
pushes forward to support. Lars Ricken and Kehl do an average
job in the centre of the park and remain solid enough players
to launch good attacks with and protect the defence. Rosicky
always remains a lively forward too, and there are genuine
moments of real class about him. Flavio Conceicou's switch
from Real Madrid sees him take a defence midfield position and
his all round game and solid passing will definitely help you
in all areas of the team. Up front hit man Koller is very
inconsistent but has a good passing header and a good shot,
even if it takes too long for him to get it off. However his
rare bits of magic provide him with a good mark and you’ll
soon find he is the kind of player that you adore for winning
matches, or he’s the worst player in the world for obscene
mistakes (he was out jumped by Makelele, which ended chance of
a goal from 5m) he makes. Ewerthon seems like an average
player to me but his final delivery is of a very good standard
and for this reason he could be handy to have in the team. The
bench provides the outstanding Amoroso and although the teams
ability overshadows his own he can provide that extra bit for
the team to win games, however his compatibility with Koller
is poor which perhaps given reason for his lowly position.

Conclusion:
The
only real tactic for this team is the ability to bully the
other team into giving away possession and then capitalizing
by launching the ball up field and hoping for the best. Hope
is a word that will be used a lot by players of this team, in
particular the hope that the defenses blatant lack of pace
wont be exploited and hope that Koller will produce the odd
spark that will win games. I can’t however be over critical
of Koller because for all his frailties I can’t picture
Dortmund doing well without him. Rosicky provides strength and
attacking ability so to win games look to propel him and
Conceicou forward and Ricken and Kehl are of enough ability to
pick up the pieces and score goals. I realise some people may
